Op 6 januari viert Europa Driekoningen, het christelijke feest dat het bezoek en het eerbetoon van de drie wijzen aan het kind Jezus herdenkt. Onlangs is ontdekt dat de Bulgaren zich vandaag, door deze intense kou, in het water gaan gooien.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Het is altijd interessant om te zien dat niet elk land op dezelfde manier feestdagen viert. Als Fransen zouden we kunnen denken dat iedereen vandaag geniet van een lekkere taart met koffie of thee als dessert. Nee. We kunnen zeggen dat de viering van Driekoningen in Frankrijk en Bulgarije totaal verschillend is.

Terwijl we in Frankrijk Driekoningen vieren door de traditionele \u201cgalette des Rois\u201d te proeven, een heerlijke taart gevuld met amandelspijs of appelmoes die bepaalt welke gast de koning van het feest wordt, wordt in Bulgarije een veel radicalere methode gebruikt. Het is zelfs volledig ongebruikelijk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Bulgarije heet 6 januari Yordanovden<\/em>. Deze dag is nauw verbonden met het geloof in de zuiverende kracht van water. Volgens de traditie gooit men dan een metalen kruis in het ijskoude water van meren en rivieren. De jongeren duiken dan in het water om het eruit te halen; de winnaar zal het hele jaar geluk hebben en gezond zijn. Soms is Driekoningen het moment waarop mannen horo uitvoeren, een traditionele Bulgaarse dans, ook weer in ijskoud water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kortom, het moet gezegd worden dat ze dapper zijn, de Bulgaarse jongens!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
