Plovdiv will be European Capital of Culture in 2019, and celebrate for one year the most prestigious cultural initiative of the European Union. Book your weekend 11-13 January 2019, to join the official opening of Plovdiv 2019 “We Are All Colors” that promises to be grandiose.
Plovdiv is one of the oldest cities in the world and the oldest living city in Europe. It is also a vibrant city, the coolest city in Europe. Full of charm, Plovdiv has an incredible ancient heritage that you can observe everywhere in the city, and mainly in the Old Plovdiv.
Every moments that we spent here, every time we were flabbergasted by its old and preserved architecture; by its neighborhoods with one of our favorite Kapana, the contemporary district which raises; by its warmed people, local as foreigners who live there.
For all these reasons and even more, Plovdiv deserved the label of European Capital of Culture in 2019, for a period of one calendar year during which the city will organizes a series of cultural events with a strong pan-Europeandimension.
Year 2019 will be gorgeous for Plovdiv. “Highlight the diversity of cultural wealth in Europe and the links that unite us as Europeans” will give to Plovdiv the nice opportunity to promote its entire incredible heritage and its cultural dynamism while enjoying media coverage not negligible thanks to the European labeling.
Plovdiv 2019 can also provide new opportunities for the development of the potential of Plovdiv and new international visibility for Bulgaria with many impacts. The Bulgarian city hope to welcome more than 2 millions visitors en 2019.
More than 300 projects and 500 events are already programmed, covering also the entire South Central Region as well as Varna, Sofia and Veliko Tarnovo.

The official opening of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture 2019, will happen the weekend of 11-13 January through a series of events at various in- and outdoor spaces across the city. The main ceremony will take place January 12th, Saturday night. It promises to be grandiose.
Over 1000 guests are invited for the ceremony entitled “We Are All Colors”, under the open sky of Plovdiv on a huge stage erected specifically for the purpose in the center.
More than 1500 participants from Bulgaria and abroad will be on stage, recreating a colorful metaphor on all the main themes of the program through music, dance and light. On “Tzar Boris III” Boulevard from the Antique Theater to the former Trimontium Hotel, a twenty-five-meter tower with 360 degrees visibility will show the program together with footage from the city.
Celebrities who are kept secret will gather on stage in front of 60 000 spectators expected for the show, to launch the hashtag #TOGETHER as a humanist message to Europe and the World as well.
