Truth be told : the entire planet knows Italia for its delicacies and incomparable culinary tradition. In Sofia, you can’t say you’ve tasted an Italian restaurant unless you’ve booked your table at Volare. What’s more about the most authentic Italian restaurant in Sofia ?

How beautiful is this new address ! Friendly, smiling, scented with basil and pecorino, Volare is the new italian place where to eat in the Bulgarian capital. All the staff is 100% italian, even the 3 cofounders. Coming from Sicily and living in Sofia, Giuseppe Di Benedetto, Maurizio Ferreri and Nino Spataro launched Volare restaurant on October 28, 2017, with the idea to offer a menu 100% Italian. Only vegetables come from Bulgaria. Giuseppe Di Benedetto to specify « the Bulgarian vegetables are excellent and very tasty. They won their place in our Italian menu”. And it’s true. All of the products and ingredients are imported from Italy and prepared by the Volare Italian chef, Daniel Fornasiero, according to the best Italian tradition.
We could not wait anymore to taste this authentic Italian place, located in Lozonetz District in Sofia. For sure, our impressions are really good. On 2 floors and 75 places, the restaurant offers also a very nice garden, open all the year. We went there to test several specialties and wines and we must say that we will definitely go back ! The pizza that Giuseppe welcomed us with, « Pizza Stella », a vegetarian starter, is a personal creation of the pizza chef, a young Italian guy freshly arrived from Italy.
It was one of the best pizza we ever ate, really tasty and unctuous. Giuseppe also greeted us with different wines which were all amazing as the Nero d’Avola. It has to be noted that the restaurant offers 75 different wines, all of them from Italy. And when a friendly Italian guy pours Italian wine to a French lady, it looks like this :
We also tasted the Pasta Alla Carbonara, the real ones, as one of the waiter explained us the true story of carbonara pasta and we will never look at this dish like before. Then, we had the chance to taste the Lasagna Bolognese and Scaloppine ai Funghi. For desert, we tried the Tiaramisu, of course, and the Cannolo siciliano we never tasted before. We still can feel the taste of these delicious deserts in our mouths. So good ! And of course, we ended up with some Lemoncello (homemade) and a Ristretto Espresso.
The purpose of the owners were to create an authentic Italian restaurant which means cooking the type of food they would eat at their mama for lunch or dinner. Nothing fancy, just everyday dishes that you can eat in Italy, the original. They wanted to transpose an Italian restaurant in Bulgaria and offer a real experience of Italy. The food, of course, but also the staff, the decoration, the atmosphere really transports you to Italy without having to leave Sofia. For sure, this is the best Italian restaurant we ever ate because the food was excellent but the all atmosphere was also playing an important role in that experience. We wish Volare all the success it deserves as without any doubt, this is a restaurant you cannot miss if you really want to experience Italy.
